Netflix has greenlit a Man on Fire series, based on the Denzel Washington-starring film. The film and series are based on the first two books in a series written by A.J. Quinnell.
According to the synopsis, the Netflix series “tells the story of John Creasy, a broken ex-mercenary on a mission to avenge the death of his only friend, while protecting his fallen comrade’s daughter from the forces that destroyed her family.”
The eight-episode series is written and executive produced by Kyle Killen and executive produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Bill McGoldrick, and Juan Alfonso for Chernin Entertainment, which has a deal with Netflix. Other executive producers include New Regency Production’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer. New Regency owns the rights and the IP and also produced the original Man on Fire film directed by Tony Scott and starring Washington.
Killen and Scott Pennington also executive produce for Chapter 11.
Washington is reuniting with Scott’s brother Ridley Scott for his upcoming Gladiator sequel. The move would be the first time in 16 years Washington and Scott have worked together, which was on the film American Gangster.
