*“Spinning Gold” is a new film that takes viewers back to the 70s to give the backstory on the early beginnings of one of the music industry’s most prolific independent labels.
“Spinning Gold” has an all-star cast including Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, Bonnie & Clyde), Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible franchise, Gone Baby Gone), Jay Pharoah (Saturday Night Live, Bad Hair), Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (The Walking Dead, The Goldbergs), Jason Isaacs (The Harry Potter franchise, The Death of Stalin, The Patriot), Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick-Ass, Hot Tub Time Machine), Chris Redd (Saturday Night Live), Casey Likes (Almost Famous on Broadway), and comedian/actor Sebastian Maniscalco (The Irishman).
EUR talked exclusively with Jordan, who portrays colorful and brilliant music producer Neil Bogart, founder of Casablanca Records. Along with a rag-tag team of young music lovers, Neil and Casablanca Records would rewrite history and change the music industry forever. The label was responsible for hits from Kiss, Donna Summer, Parliament-Funkadelic, and the Village People in less than five years.
Jordan shared that many of his favorite things about the character of Neil aren’t things he would want to emulate in his real life but make for a fascinating character. He explained, “the raw tenacity and an inability to take no for an answer. I found that incredibly admirable, although personally terrifying. That is always fun to play because it is so different from mine. And I love that he could charm anyone into anything, essentially. And if you spent enough time with him, you couldn’t help but be pulled into his magnetism. Even if you despise him, you’re like, gosh, what is it about him? That’s a cool thing to try to tap into.”

Jordan said he knew nothing about the story of Casablanca records before being cast in the role.
“But of course, I knew the music that came out of it” he added, “ a lot of it, not all of it, but it was all completely new and, and fresh story to me. And, you know, I think a lot of the audience will come from that place, too. So there are not many expectations. The movie definitely takes you on some unexpected turns. And then, for the people that do know, Casablanca. It’s more of, they think they know, but they don’t really know.”
“Spinning Gold” also features some of today’s hottest music stars as 70s music icons, including Grammy and Golden Globe nominee Wiz Khalifa as George Clinton, Jason Derulo as Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Pink Sweat$ as Bill Withers, Grammy Award nominee Tayla Parx as Donna Summer and multi-Grammy winner Ledisi as Gladys Knight.
“Spinning Gold” is in theatres on March 31.
