*The “Girls Trip” sequel is in the works and is set to take place in West Africa. However, there MIGHT be a casting issue.
Writer-director-producer Tracy Oliver, who penned the first film, told the Variety Studio during the Sundance Film Festival that Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish will reprise their roles.
Oliver told the festival that “Girls Trip 2” is “officially happening. I can say that.” She also provided a plot update, and while the film’s producer Will Packer “might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana,” she said.
The first “Girls Trip” was a box office hit, grossing $140 million worldwide on a $16 million budget.
Director Malcolm D. Lee helmed the film that was produced by Will Packer.

Packer previously said on “Good Morning America” that a “Girls Trip” sequel is 100% happening!
“Can’t we all use a post-pandemic trip, my friend? I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway,” Will told GMA host Michael Strahan during a 2022 interview. “We are absolutely in the stages, the ladies are in, I just talked to the director.”
Packer also dished about the project during an interview with Jemele Hill — check out what he had to say in the clip below.
Meanwhile, some social media users have expressed their wish to NOT see Tiffany Haddish return for the sequel after she got caught up in a controversial child sexual grooming incident last year.
