During an interview with Brietbart News last week, Republican Senator Rand Paul offered to buy Rep. Ilhan Omar a ticket to Somalia so “she might come back and appreciate America more.”
What We Know:
-
“And so while I’m not saying we forcibly send her anywhere, I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia…And I think she can look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia — that has no capitalism, has no God-given rights guaranteed in a constitution, and has about seven different tribes that have been fighting each other for the last 40 years” Paul stated.
-
He also added , “And then maybe after she’s visited Somalia for a while, she might come back and appreciate America more”.
- Paul’s comments are similar to the recent comments made by President Trump two weeks ago. Trump attacked Democratic Representatives Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and advised that “they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came”.
- Three of the four lawmakers were born in the U.S. and Omar became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. as a Somalian refugee when she was a teenager.
- Omar has since responded to Paul, sharing a tweet by actor Tom Arnold. In the tweet, Arnold mocked a 2017 assault on Paul by his neighbor Rene Boucher. The attack (at his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky) left Paul with six broken ribs and bruised lungs. The senator was eventually awarded more than $580,000 in damages in a lawsuit against Boucher. We love the shade!
There is so much disrespect towards such powerful women.
