*Renowned percussionist and gospel singer Sandra Crouch, known for her illustrious career in music and ministry, passed away on Sunday, March 17, at Northridge Hospital in Northridge, California, following complications from radiation treatment for a non-cancerous brain lesion.

Born on July 1, 1942, in Los Angeles, Sandra and her brother Andraé emerged from a deeply rooted musical and ministerial family. Together, they embarked on a musical journey, forming The COGICS in the 1960s, blending their talents with church influences.

While Andraé formed Andraé Crouch & The Disciples, Sandra carved her path as a sought-after percussionist in Hollywood, contributing to iconic albums such as The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” and Janis Joplin’s “Pearl.”

In the 1970s, Sandra joined forces with her brother, enriching gospel music with hits like “Jesus Is the Answer.” Their collaborative efforts extended to supporting Michael Jackson and working on acclaimed film soundtracks.

Sandra’s solo career shone brightly in the 1980s, with three Grammy-nominated albums, including the award-winning “We Sing Praises.” Her musical legacy continued through her co-pastorship at New Christ Memorial Church, defying convention in the COGIC denomination.

In a statement, Kenneth J. Cook, the church’s assistant pastor, announced Sandra’s passing, highlighting her profound impact on the community. Her life will be honored with a viewing and musical tribute on April 16, followed by a homegoing service on April 17, at New Christ Memorial Church.
