*Director Ryan Coogler is working on a feature musical about the late-great Prince for Proximity Media.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Coogler will produce an untitled jukebox musical of Prince songs for Universal Pictures,” the outlet writes. The project, which has been under development since 2018, features a script penned by Bryan Edward Hill.
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan are teaming up again for an untitled feature film, and details about the project are under wraps.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cooler will write and direct the film with Jordan set to star. Per THR, “The project is operating under such a veil of secrecy that little is known about it,” the outlet writes.
The forthcoming Warner Bros. feature is set for release on March 7, 2025.
Jordan and Coogler previously worked together on “Black Panther,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and “Creed.” The upcoming new project is described as a “genre” feature, per THR.
In related news, Jordan is set to star in the sequel to Will Smith’s “I Am Legend,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Filmmaker Akiva Goldsman said the sequel would follow the first film’s “alternate ending,” which appears on the DVD, where Smith’s character doesn’t die; instead — he’s brought back to life.
The events in “I Am Legend 2” occur years after the original.
“This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman said. “That will be especially visual in New York. … I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless.”
The sequel will follow Richard Matheson’s 1954 novella, according to Goldsman.
“So we are going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,” Will Smith said during the 2023 Sea International Film Festival.
