The classic romantic action movie from 2005 Mr. & Mrs. Smith has inspired a recently released Amazon Prime series of the same name. However, instead of staring the former on-and-off-screen coined “Bradgelina,” the 2024 series stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The show was created by Francesca Sloane alongside Glover. The spy show features the main characters John and Jane Smith traveling to several locations throughout their home base in New York City as well as stunning locations in Italy. Learn here the details on the visually amazing Mr. & Mrs. Smith filming locations and maybe even visit them for yourself.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith Filming Locations
Mr. & Mrs. Smith, released February 2, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video, is about a man and a woman who start as strangers but agree to throw away their previous lives to become spies for a mysterious organization. They take on an undercover role where they will be living together in NYC as a married couple and are given the names John and Jane Smith. The Smiths complete a different mission each episode given via text by an unknown source they refer to as “Hihi.” During each mission, they must use their skills in espionage to complete dangerous, action-packed tasks, all while the audience gets to watch the tension and feelings build between the “couple.” Here are some of the locations where these grand missions take place.
New York City
New York City is the main location of the show for the first few episodes and towards the end as that is where John and Jane are assigned to live. They live in a luxurious brownstone home that was provided to them by their agency. It is unlike the other homes in their neighborhood (something the neighbors suspiciously observed) as it is two brownstones combined into one with added amenities such as a subterranean pool, a garage, a wine cellar, a screening room, a rooftop composter and more, according to Architectural Digest. The inside of the home is a set, but the outside of the home was shot outside a real Manhattan Brownstone home.
Other New York sites featured as Mr. and Mrs. Smith filming locations are Marseille Restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, the historical theater Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Calfosch, Italy
Besides New York, other Mr. & Mrs. Smith filming locations are stunning towns in Italy. During the third episode of the show, the Smiths are tasked by their mysterious organization to fly out to Italy where they will be keeping tabs on a couple visiting the country for a vacation. They are taken to the beautiful village of Calofosch (or Colfosco in Italian) in the Italian province South Tyrol where they are staying at an incredible ski resort set at the high-end Hotel Fanes. According to Crystal Ski Holidays, the village of Calofosch has 1,220km of ski space and views of the UNESCO-protected Dolomites Mountain range.
Veneto, Italy
John and Jane Smith are very briefly seen in the Italian region of Veneto during episode five as they are met with intense car chases and other action-packed scenes that lead to them having to vacate to a safer area. Because of this plotline, this is the only point when one of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith filming locations is in this region. However, it is still worth noting as the city makes a stunning backdrop for all the action featured in the episode. The summer setting through the cobblestone streets and colorful houses of the region makes for a perfect contrast to all the chaos the Smiths are subjected to.
Lake Como, Italy
The Smiths are forced to relocate to a cottage in the beautiful Lake Como area of Italy instead of where they would have stayed in Veneto in episode five. This setting is more intimate and gives the fake couple a taste of what married life could be like if they had not given up their lives. The scenes were actually filmed in Lake Como where the resort area creates a peaceful, honeymoon-esque contrast through the continued chaos from the previous scenes.
