NOLA Police Has Rat Infestation, Rodents High from Eating Marijuana in Evidence Rooms | Video | EURweb

*The New Orleans Police Department is facing a rat infestation so severe that the rodents are consuming some of the drugs stored as evidence — and getting high.

According to NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, the decaying NOPD headquarters are riddled with mold and overrun by rats. These rodents have even infiltrated the evidence room, where they consume some of the stored marijuana, per NOLA.

Kirkpatrick voiced concerns about the conditions during a meeting with the City Council’s Criminal Justice Committee on Monday, March 11th.

“The rats are eating our marijuana,” Kirkpatrick said, Complex reports. “They’re all high.”

The officers are also dealing with rodents leaving feces on desks.

“It is not just at police headquarters. It is all the districts. The uncleanliness is off the charts,” said Kirkpatrick, who is lobbying to relocate the New Orleans Police Department headquarters, according to Complex.

“The janitorial cleaning [team] deserves an award trying to clean what is uncleanable,” he added.

Chief Administrative Officer Gilbert Montaño said several criminal justice agencies will likely “have to be temporarily housed as we address these old decrepit buildings.”
