*”Arthur the King” tells the story of Mikael Lindnord, an over-the-hill endurance racer who puts together an elite team of athletes to compete in the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic. “Arthur the King” is based on the book “Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home” written by Lindnord.
Mark Wahlberg stars in the lead role of Lindnord – and is also one of the film’s producers. We discussed the film with co-stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Simi Liu, and Ali Suliman, who star as members of Mikael’s handpicked endurance team.
“I love the fact that it was a dog story but I also love the world of adventure racing and like the idea I could inhabit one of these characters to be a world-class athlete to go and [compete],” said Liu.”We were assured we would have the best resources available to take part in that training. I play the role of Leo and he’s kind of a set up as a foil to Mikael, but they’re both kind of in their worlds at the beginning of the movie. There’s was a lot that resonated with me.”
The film is shot in a dual narrative, parallel fashion that juxtaposes Lindnord’s journey back into the competitive limelight and his search for the perfect team alongside that of a stray dog he would eventually name Arthur. He is an intelligent and loyal canine who finds himself attached to the main character, who eventually realizes he and this seemingly rundown dog have a lot more in common.
