*Donald Trump’s $399 limited-edition sneakers may not be winning over his targeted black audience but count Fat Joe among those with a pair of the infamous footwear.
Despite taking criticism for owning the sneakers, the “What’s Luv?” MC is defending his decision to get the shoes anyway. In his eyes, Trump’s shoes are a worthy addition to his shoe collection.
“Why? If you collect art, do you really know what [Jean Michel] Basquiat was into? You love the art, so you get it,” Fat Joe recently said via livestream video. “I had to get my hands on Trump’s [sneakers].”
The Terror Squad member’s honesty for obtaining the Trump shoes comes days after the former commander-in-chief made a surprise appearance at Sneaker Con in Philadelphia on Feb. 17 to launch his new line of sneakers.
Despite the high price, Fat Joe wasn’t the only one to be among the first to get a pair of the controversial shoes. Sandra Rose noted one man who paid $9,000 for an autographed pair of Trump’s high-top sneaks.

The golden “Never Surrender High-Top Sneakers” are very limited, with only 1,000 of them available in Trump’s online store.
Trump’s objective with the sneakers is seen by many as an attempt to pay legal fees surrounding current cases, he is involved in around the country. In Trump’s eyes, the sneakers represent a way of getting support from Black voters who will participate in the 2024 presidential election. With his dominant showing in the primaries, Trump is coasting towards being the Republican nominee for president, with a rematch against President Joe Biden in sight.
Although he admitted to getting Trump’s sneakers, Fat Joe made a point of saying his is not a “Trumper” and would never vote for the MAGA movement leader. Instead, the “All the Way Up” rhymesayer harped on the shoes being more of a collector’s item for him than proof he is in Trump’s corner.
“I have thousands and thousands of sneakers,” Fat Joe explained “I gotta get my hands on them… I’m a sneaker collector, so I had to find these.”
“I don’t know what none of these guys did,” he said, referring to artists. “I collect sneakers! The rarer, the better.”
As an avid shoe connoisseur, Fat Joe has his eyes on the bigger picture with the Trump footwear. Sandra Rose notes a few pairs of sneakers have sold on eBay for “thousands of dollars.” Yet there is the belief that the sneakers may fetch a lot more one day.
“No, I didn’t pay for these sneakers,” Joe stated on whether he shelled out $399 for the shoes. “Sorry… they knew I had to have them. ‘Cause I’m the biggest [collector] in the game. It’s what I do is collect.”
