*Last night on CNN’s “King Charles,” Charles Barkley responded to criticism about his recent comments on Black Trump voters.
In case you missed it, the NBA legend threatened to physically assault Black Trump supporters wearing or displaying Trump’s mugshot in public.
“First of all, I’m just gonna say this,” he stated on the “King Charles” primetime show. “If I see a Black person walking around with a Trump mugshot, I’m gonna punch him in the face.”
When co-host Gayle King noted that Barkley would be arrested for assault, he said, “I’m gonna bail myself out and go celebrate.”
Barkley addressed the backlash to his comments on last night’s “King Charles” broadcast, CNN reports. He stated, “Well, let me say, is this my camera right there? I want to make sure people can hear me. Number one, obviously, I’m not going to go around punching random strangers in the face, first and foremost. Secondly, people can vote for who they want to. People can vote for who they want to. The point I was trying to make — no, the point I was making, I wasn’t trying to make it, when Donald Trump compares his plight with that other black person, that is what I had a problem with.”
Barkley was referring to Trump’s recent remarks to a crowd in Columbia, South Carolina, where he suggested that his mugshot and legal trouble with the government appeals to Black voters, Fox News reports.
“You know who embraced more than anybody else? The Black population,” Trump said at the rally. “It’s incredible. You see Black people walking around with my mugshot – you know they do shirts.”
On a previous episode of “King Charges,” Barkley said, “First of all, if I was at that [conference], I would’ve got up and walked out. That was an insult to all Black people. To compare Black history, where we’ve been discriminated against, to his plight.”
Barkley added, “It’s not a fair comparison,” he said of Trump comparing himself to Black people after being arrested and indicted.
“He’s a billionaire, he’s had a great life, he’s been President of the United States. To insult Black people who have been discriminated against all these years and put them in the same category, I was just offended,” Barkley continued.
During last night’s broadcast, Barkley said, “If you’re wearing a black — if you’re wearing a black — if you’re a black person and you’re wearing a Donald Trump mug shot, you are a freaking idiot. And I’m only saying freaking idiot because they won’t let me say what I really want to say. But you can figure it out. It starts with an F. But you are.”
