*Nas has partnered with Resorts World Casino New York City on a $5 billion expansion plan to redevelop the establishment into a casino in the rapper’s Jamaica, Queens neighborhood.
“This is an ambitious project that will give new opportunities to the hard-working families who call Queens home, attract top-tier talent, and build up the next generation of leaders,” said Nas, Rhyme Junkie reports.
At the unveiling, Nas reportedly added: “It’s an honor to be here, to be a part of this with Resorts World, realizing the future, seeing what this can be and what it will be.”
Resorts World has plans to construct a multi-functional casino that’ll include “a 7,000-seat capacity entertainment venue intended for hosting events and concerts,” Billboard writes.
The casino will include park space, housing, hotels, restaurants, and upgraded transit options to JFK Airport and Manhattan. This comprehensive plan has the potential to generate 5,000 union jobs.
Forbes reports that Nas’s announcement occurred Thursday at the Southeast Queens casino.
“When we stood here more than a dozen years ago to break ground on Resorts World New York City, our vision extended well beyond that already-ambitious original plan — today, that vision can soon become a reality,” Robert DeSalvio, president of Genting America East, shared in a statement.
It seems Nas’ ‘ambitious’ plan is competing with JAY-Z for the NYC casino license.
We reported previously that Jigga’s Roc Nation has taken out full-page ads in multiple publications about its NYC casino plans.
“A gaming license is going to be awarded to New York City,” the letter states, Complex reports. “A bill was passed in the state legislature confirming it. The question is: which applicant will get the license? Some conflicted parties have attempted to spread misinformation, so we wanted to speak to you, New York City, directly.”
JAY-Z joined a group of investors who want to open a casino in New York City’s Times Square.
According to the New York Post, the hip-hop mogul teamed with SL Green and Caesars Entertainment to submit proposals to the state to erect the first full-scale boutique-style casino at 1515 Broadway office tower. The partnership involves JAY-Z overseeing entertainment programming at the tower, as well as SL Green’s six other Times Square properties.
“New York is the epicenter of culture. We have the opportunity to create a destination at the heart of the true crossroads of the word,” JAY-Z said in a statement. “My partnership with SL Green and Caesars has all the promise and commitment to economic opportunity, growth and enrichment for the community and everyone that visits the Empire State.”
The Roc Nation ad was published in the New York Post, the New York Daily News, and Amsterdam News last year.
