*Actress India de Beaufort spoke to EUR exclusively about the exciting second season of “Night Court” that premiered in January.
“Night Court” is based on the original hit series that ran for nine seasons on NBC. According to NBC Insider, the pilot episode of the reboot was the number-one broadcast premiere of the 2022-2023 season. Season 1’s exceptional reception swiftly led to its renewal for a second installment.
“The verdict is in and the ‘new-boot’ of Night Court is a hit! The series’ razor-sharp humor makes the show a weekly must-watch,” Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, said.
With only a few episodes left in the new season, we caught up with de Beaufort, who teased what fans can expect and offered unique insights into her character and the cast dynamic with John Larroquette, who reprised his role as Dan Fielding.
The “Night Court” centers on Judge Abby Stone, who follows in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone, as she takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.
Per the series synopsis: “Abby always sees the best in people and her passion for justice is undeniable. In her quest to bring order and dignity to the court and reign in its colorful crew of oddballs, she enlists former night court district attorney Dan Fielding to serve as the court’s public defender.”
The description continues, “They both must contend with Olivia (de Beaufort), the court’s officious assistant district attorney. Driven and ambitious, she views the night court as a stepping stone on her way to bigger things.”
NBC Insider describes Olivia as “hard-working and endlessly ambitious, but it seems like she is often her own biggest roadblock to further success. Olivia looks at the night court as one step of a bigger journey toward making change, even if the courtroom can get a tad eccentric in the late hours.”
Speaking to Nerds and Beyond, Beaufort said the role of Olivia is her “dream job.”
“Somebody gives you the opportunity to do your dream job and then have it be the revival of Night Court? To me, it’s an absolute no-brainer,” she said.
In the clip below, India further gushed about the role in our exclusive interview about the latest season.
From executive producer and writer Dan Rubin (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), and executive producers Melissa Rauch and Winston Rauch, “Night Court” airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC. Catch up on new episodes and Season 1 on Peacock.
