*Music icon Usher is currently basking in glory following his Super Bowl LVIII performance announcement made by the National Football League on Saturday (Sept. 24).
Usher has revealed that Jay-Z gave him a call soon after the news came out.
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe after the announcement, the “I Don’t Mind” singer discussed several things, but the main one had to be headlining one of the most remarkable shows of 2024. He stated that rapper Jay-Z was among the first responders to call to share with him the happiness.
Said Usher, “But when I got this call… he said, ‘It’s time, it’s magic time. You know, it’s time for you to have that moment.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’” Usher recalled. “He’s like, ‘The Super Bowl.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, you ready? Absolutely.’”
The entertainer added that he was meeting destiny in this rare opportunity. But although it is a rare opportunity, it’s not like Usher has never performed at the Super Bowl stage before. In 2011, he shared the Super Bowl stage with The Black Eyed Peas.
“I think that everything that led up to that moment, going to Las Vegas for my residency for the last two years, the legacy, obviously that is the music, the celebration of entertainment in that place,” Usher said. “It’s the City of Lights. You know, it’s always been a place where entertainers go and find love and passion, connection to their fans.”
Wayminute! Before he does the Super Bowl halftime thing in February, Usher will head to Detroit in December for the city’s Jingle Ball event.
Ursh is headlining Channel 955’s (WKQI-FM) holiday concert at Little Caesars Arena on Dec. 5, venue officials announced Friday.
He’ll lead a lineup that also includes Jelly Roll, Lil Durk, Big Time Rush, Flo Rida, Doechii, Kaliiii and (G)I-DLE.
