Originally used by farmers to herd and farm sheep and cattle, Chilean estancias are perfect for relaxing in nature. Many of these farms are still functioning today. Spending time with the Mapuche people in Chile is an eye-opening and heartwarming experience. These people are the largest and most represented indigenous group in the country. Spanish explorers were unable to conquer the Mapuche people and they still live in Chile’s Araucania region. Locals in the area welcome travelers. They invite them to live in their homes, allowing them to take cooking classes and engage in their everyday activities. A true reflection of real South American culture, visiting the Mapuche people is a cultural experience you don’t want to miss.  

Travel Underground To The World’s Largest Open Pit Copper Mine

For a truly otherworldly experience, be sure to check out the copper mine in Chile. This mine is the world’s largest open-pit copper mine. Large amounts of copper ore is extracted at the mine every year and travelers can get a look at the smelting process. The only way to see the red-walled mine is through a guided tour provided by the mining company.
