The James Room
The Black-owned James Room is a hidden gem showcasing a unique blend of low-key charm with a chic ambiance reflected in its opulent and stylish decor. The bar offers a wide variety of wines and cocktails, ranging from the classics to indulgent signature creations. However, The James Room doesn’t only impress with its drinks. Its menu of light bites includes shareable charcuterie, crab cakes, vegan meatballs and more. Some nights live music is playing. On others, a DJ spins hip-hop, R&B, pop and soul, as well as reggae and reggaeton hits. The James Room is a great spot to support an incredible Black-owned business while you soak up the city’s culture and relish in excellent craft cocktails.
Himitsu
Tucked away behind Umi Sushi, Himitsu–which means secret–is a Japanese-style speakeasy that offers an intimate and exclusive atmosphere perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. Known to be frequented by celebrities, the dimly lit, high-end hidden bar features a modern, luxe aesthetic. In addition to a variety of imported Japanese whiskeys, the bar offers a curated menu of classic and inventive cocktails inspired by the Japanese zodiacs. Not only are Himitsu’s signature cocktails creative; they’re beautifully presented, too, making them both delicious and Instagram-worthy. A reservation is required to gain access to this cocktail lounge. With only 60 seats available, it’s a good idea to reserve a table well in advance.
The Blind Pig Parlour Bar
Another popular Atlanta speakeasy is The Blind Pig Parlour Bar. This upscale gin joint is perfect for anyone looking to experience the glitz and glam of the flapper era. The Blind Pig is a classy lounge with vintage decor, live music and a menu full of classic libations. Its prohibition-style cocktails pack a punch, with inspiration from the 1920s. You’ll relish the lively atmosphere, with a stage for live performances and a full bar with small bites. To keep things exciting, the decor and menu change themes with the season. This summer, the Playa Pig pop-up transported visitors to a chic tropical oasis. Winter also brings special themes, like the Blind Elf winter wonderland. To find this speakeasy, look for the black unmarked door behind the Chido & Padre’s Mexican restaurant.
Red Phone Booth
Red Phone Booth is a classic speakeasy with two locations in Atlanta: Downtown and Buckhead. Visitors to this bar are taken back in time to the prohibition era as they enter through a secret door disguised as a red phone booth. Once inside the speakeasy, guests enter a world of luxury and sophistication, with plush leather seating, dim lighting and a large array of liquors. Red Phone Booth offers 180 different types of whiskey along with a cigar lounge.
