Is Allegiance Owed to Black Institutions?

Posted on September 18, 2023 by Eurweb

*During my travels I have been to Kansas City, Missouri many times. Yet, on a recent visit, I took time to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. This is why I ask if allegiance is owed to Black institutions by Black people.

This museum is located in the 18th and Vine district of Kansas City. That’s where KC’s version of Black Wall Street was established by freed slaves and their descendants who moved to this midwest city for a better life after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

When Jackie Robinson crossed the color barrier into Major League Baseball it was a matter of time before the vacuum of Black talent left Negro league baseball teams barren.

Some people are making comparisons between this and Deion Sanders‘ success in the Pac-12 football conference at Colorado after leaving Jackson State.

Or, put it this way, Deion Sanders’ success as head football coach at the University of Colorado has some comparing his story to the demise of Black institutions. Is it fair?

So, is allegiance owed to Black institutions? Do we owe loyalty to Black institutions?

Click the video above for my take on it.
