*In the fall, CBS will air “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen” for a limited time during the SAG/WGA strikes — and some folks are not happy about that.
As Deadline reports, the show will air nightly beginning tonight, September 18 from 12:37-1:37 AM, ET/PT. In the comments of the outlet’s report, one critic called Allen a “union-busting rich guy” who “is no friend to the little man.”
Another hater added, “Bryon Allen is no friend of writers or the WGA. Every single one of his scripted shows – from game shows to sitcoms – is non-guild and the writers’ pay is horrendously low.”
A third person wrote, “Oh, man, CBS is not messing around today! Comedians, another group of non-SAG, non-WGA talents that can get as many eyeballs as any scripted shows. I’m surprised it took this long, but the networks and the streamers are not going to be held hostage anymore. Writers, your lives and careers are on the line. Being replaced due to your own misguided strikes is the existential great you probably didn’t expect.”
Allen will host the comedy show, featuring a rotating panel of comedians, such as Sebastian Maniscalco, Tiffany Haddish, Gabriel Iglesias, Cedric the Entertainer, Howie Mandel, Leslie Jones, Wayne Brady, Roy Wood, Jr., Whitney Cummings, JB Smoove, Billy Gardell, Margaret Cho, Brad Garrett, Sheryl Underwood, Adam Carolla, Gina Yashere, Dane Cook, Sinbad, George Wallace, Caroline Rhea, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, Kevin Hart, Chelsea Handler, Katt Williams, Dennis Miller, Jamie Kennedy, Iliza Shlesinger, Jon Lovitz, Bill Bellamy, Mike Epps, Monique, Tom Papa, Gary Owen, Natasha Leggero, Deon Cole, Lisa Ann Walter, Marc Maron, Anthony Anderson, Russell Peters and more, per Deadline.
Since September 2006, “Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen” has been in first-run syndication, and you can watch it on CBS-owned stations in 14 markets, according to Deadline.
“Comics Unleashed is a true passion for me, simply because this world can never have enough laughter,” said Byron Allen, founder/chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group, in a statement. “I created this show so that the best comedians can all come together and bring nonstop laughter.”
