*Unfortunately, we have sad news to report. Irish Grinstead, best known as a member of girl group 702, has died. She was 43.
The news of her passing was made via an announcement on Instagram by her sister Lemisha Grinstead, who’s also a member of the group.
“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening,” she wrote. “She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace,” Lemisha continued.
“We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family,” Lemisha concluded the post.
A cause of death wasn’t immediately specified, however back in 2022 the group’s official Instagram account announced that Irish would be taking a step back from the group due to “serious medical issues.”
The group 702 was named after the Las Vegas area code and released its debut album No Doubt in 1996. They are probably best known for their hit song, “Steelo,” as well as “Where My Girls At,” which was released with their second album.
Via Instagram as well, former 702 member Kameela Williams said she was “devastated [and] heartbroken” by Grinstead’s passing:
“I struggled with this post because to me this isn’t real. There’s a lot I want to say, but there’s no way to say what your heart hasn’t fully accepted. It’s hard to acknowledge this is even happening. I know you’re feeling better now and hugging your twin Orish which makes me smile cus [sic] I know how much you missed her.”
Tragically, Irish’s twin sister and founding 702 member – Orish Grinstead – died of kidney failure in 2008 when she was only 27.

As of this posting, the cause of Irish’s death has not been revealed. However, the group announced in December that Irish was taking a “medical leave of absence due to serious medical issues.”
