New York, London and Paris are known for having renowned art institutions, and they attract millions of tourists a year. However, there are smaller cities, towns and villages with an equally artsy spirit.

Whether you want access to art galleries, live music or theater, you don’t have to go to the major cities to find them. Instead, check out these smaller destinations with artsy vibes.

This adorable, idyllic and artsy village often gets overshadowed by St. Tropez, Nice and the major stars of the French Riviera.

The village itself is a work of art. The narrow, cobblestone walkways are remnants of the medieval past. Explore the galleries selling paintings, glass work, ceramics and crafts. After a full day of perusing, unwind in the Jardin Exotique d’Eze, home to succulent plants and other flora. The views of the Mediterranean Sea, especially when paired with a croissant or glass of wine, can’t be beat.

Otherwise known as the “Sunrise City,” San Nicolas has vibrant murals created by local and visiting artists. These works infuse the city with character, as do the restaurants, shops and the San Nicolas Community Museum.

San Nicolas is just 30 minutes from Aruba’s chief city: Oranjestad.

Woodstock is famous for the music festival of the same name.

In over 50 years since the era of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll, Woodstock retains its carefree spirit. It takes on certain charm in the spring and summer, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth visiting the colder months.

The main artery, Tinker Street, is where you’ll find the quirky coffee shops, antique dealers and restaurants.
