*“The Nun II” pushed Sony’s “The Equalizer 3” out of the top spot at the box office this weekend.
“The Equalizer 3” earned $42 million across its four-day debut and $100 million at the global box office, Collider reports.
Warner Bros. “The Nun II” earned an estimated $32.6 million across the U.S. and Canada, with a global opening of $85.3M.
Taissa Farmiga leads the cast as Sister Irene in “The Nun 2”. Per What to Watch, the official synopsis states: “1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.”

Meanwhile, Washington returns as Robert McCall for the third installment in “The Equalizer” action movie franchise, and once again, he’s protecting Dakota Fanning from bad guys.
Per the official synopsis, “Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.”
According to Urban Hollywood 411, Sony Pictures said this is “the final chapter” of the franchise.
As TheWrap reports, “The Equalizer 2” earned $190 million at the box office in 2018 compared to “The Equalizer” which earned $193 million in 2014.
Meanwhile, “Barbie” rounded out the top 5 at the U.S. box office with $5.9 million. The film has earned $1.4 billion worldwide.
