*A man in Chesterfield, Virginia has taken porch piracy to a new level, stealing the package directly from the worker making the delivery.
Doorbell footage obtained by WRIC captured a man approaching a FedEx delivery driver as she was dropping off a package containing an iPad. At the last second, the thief snatches the package right from her grip and runs to his vehicle, a white BMW.
The homeowner, Jessica Saenz, happened to be working from home when this all went down on Thursday (Sept. 31).
“I was in a meeting and then the FedEx lady started knocking on my door like, really hard,” Saenz told the news outlet. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’”
The worker then explained what just happened to her iPad. Saenz checked her doorbell video and saw the thief telling the FedEx employee that he lived at that residence before grabbing the package.
Neighbor Johnny Eubanks said he saw it all go down as he walked his dog.
“It’s kind of crazy. I’ve never seen anything like that before. You know, usually people are sneaky about it,” he told WRIC. “People are pretty desperate now.”
Police are investigating the theft and said the white BMW seen in the clip is believed to have been involved in another recent robbery.
