‘The Book of Clarence’ Trailer: LaKeith Stanfield Becomes A Messiah In Biblical Epic From ‘The Harder They Fall’ Director – Shadow and Act

The first trailer for The Harder They Fall director Jeymes Samuel’s upcoming biblical epic The Book of Clarence showcases LaKeith Stanfield as a man who wants some of Jesus’ power and fame.

Along with Stanfield, the film also stars Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, David Oyelowo, Afre Woodard, Teyana Taylor, Caleb McLaughlin, James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Set to the song “I Would Die 4 You” by Prince, the trailer follows Clarence (Stanfield), a man living in Jerusalem alongside Jesus and becomes inspired to try to amass the same type of following Jesus has, but for the wrong reasons, at least at first. According to the description:

From visionary filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, The Book of Clarence is a bold new take on the timeless Biblical-era epic. Streetwise but down-on-his-luck, Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield) is struggling to find a better life for his family, while fighting to free himself of debt. Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and His apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, and ultimately discovers that the redemptive power of belief may be his only way out.

Samuel directs from his own screenplay. Samuel also worked on new music for the film with JAY-Z, his frequent collaborator. The film is expected to release in theaters 2024.
