A director of House of the Dragon has discussed the upcoming season 2 of the massive HBO show, commenting on the reduced number of episodes for the Game of Thrones prequel.
The second season of House of the Dragon will include only eight episodes in all, according to information that surfaced in March. In comparison, the first season had ten episodes.
Director Claire Kilner explained to The Hollywood Reporter that season 2 has “eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour.”
She continued saying that showrunner Ryan Condal made the decision “to give it a good opening and a good ending.” Kilner promises that even though there will only be eight episodes, they will be “jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.”
House of the Dragon season 2 is expected to air sometime in 2024, according to HBO and Max chief content officer Casey Bloys.
Soon after the Season 1 finale aired in October 2022, Bloys said, “We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns. It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it… Don’t expect it in 2023.”
The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, stars Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke and many more. The fantasy series won a Golden Globe award for Best Drama Television Series in 2023.
