Labor Day is the finale of Summer. It’s the last hoorah before the fall sets in. The temperature cools off outside and Halloween suddenly seems around the corner. The extended weekend gives travelers one more chance to getaway to some Labor Day destinations with the family.
There are plenty of places folks visit for Labor Day weekend. Some of these places may not pop up on the top destinations list, but they provide unforgettable travel experiences for the entire family. Here are five Labor Day destinations for Black millennial parents traveling with their kids.
Vail, Colorado

A hidden gem in Colorado, Vail provides so much family fun. The city is known for skiing; however, if the slopes aren’t your thing, there’s much more to see. For the traveling adventurer, Epic Discover has something for everyone. There’s ziplining, a mountainside roller coaster, gondola rides through the clouds, mini golf and more.
If you’re the parent of animal lovers, Paragon Guides offers a wildlife tour, accompanied by llamas. The walk takes you through the mountains for a real backcountry adventure.
There are a ton of family friendly festivals and attractions happening in Vail, during the summer. Every Wednesday, there’s an Art Walk through the Vail Village. There is plenty of city history to experience, and the slopes are always open.
Cody, Wyoming
Cody, Wyoming, is a hub for outdoorsmen with incredible landscapes and national parks. It sits right at Yellowstone National Park. The park recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, so Cody is one of the prime Labor Day destinations for festivities.

Boston is an east coast city known for its connection to America’s founding fathers. However, the city has a rich Black history worth experiencing as a family.
The Freedom Trail takes travelers back in time past 16 historical landmarks and monuments. Black abolitionists are honored on the Black Heritage Trail. There are plenty of cruises on Boston’s harbors during Labor Day weekend. There’s also sailing, fireworks and family fun-filled festivities.
Orlando, Florida
If your children love amusement parks, Orlando is the Labor Day destination to visit. The city is home to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Fantasy and fiction comes alive in Orlando. This is the place to take the family where dreams come true.
The Promenade at Sunset Walk will be jamming all weekend long with festivities. Disney is taking to the ice Sept. 2 to Sept. 4 for exciting skating entertainment. Over at Epcot, the International Food & Wine Festival will still be taking place throughout the holiday.
Chicago, Illinois
For a quick, Midwest getaway, Chicago is definitely a top Labor Day destination for families. It’s essential to visit the lakeshore beach for the holiday. There’s a plethora of museums, parks, exhibits and cultural experiences to have while visiting. Chicago is also known to have a lot of curated pop-up events and shows that you’ll only catch at special times. For some cultural fun, head to the African Festival of Arts in Washington Park from Sept. 2 to Sept. 5.The Navy Pier is hosting fireworks all weekend long, and the city’s Labor Day Parade is happening on Saturday.
