*“I was vibin’ to the beat,” said Hip-Hop artist Asim I.I. about his introduction to Urban Gospel artist Angelic aka AngelicVoicesMusic, who is set to release his highly anticipated EP “Spiritual Overtones.” “We used to do ciphers and I did one to an Angelic beat. We met through a mutual friend…who works for Bad Boy Records, and he said that he had an artist for me to work with.”
So, when Asim I.I. found out that the beat he was vibin’ to was an Angelic beat he became excited to work with him on a project. That project would be the first single “Why Not” from his new EP. Asim is a featured artist on the single and Angelic is the producer.
“Lord, I don’t like people complaining,” AngelicVoicesMusic said about the meaning of the single “Why Not” and its lyrics. “That’s where the lyrics come from…God is keeping the heart beating! Everything we do we represent Jesus Christ!”
“(‘Why Not’) I made the track a while ago…the lyrics came later,” Angelic told me when I asked.
He adds: “I grew up playing keyboard at four. I was DJing at 12 and then a professional DJ of House Music. I was born to do this.”
Angelic, a Manhattan, NY native, said his time growing up was spent over his cousins’ house recording. He even had a local group performing in Harlem. He was a well sought-after DJ along with DJ EZ Rock, DJ Steve D, and his cousin Aqanza Jones
“Every time I had an idea I had to run to his house,” Angelic continued about his cousin. “He showed me all that stuff.”
