*Tory Lanez is speaking out after a Los Angeles judge sentenced him on Tuesday to 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020.
Lanez, 31, shared a message on Instagram in which he maintains his innocence and insists he was wrongfully convicted. The Canadian-born artist said he refuses “to apologize for something that I did not do.”
Per AP News, prosecutors sought a 13-year sentence for the rapper (born Daystar Peterson) after being convicted of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Megan testified during the trial that she was walking away from an SUV when Lanez shot at the back of her feet during an argument in the summer of 2020.
In a statement to the court prior to his sentencing, Megan said Lanez has shown no remorse since the incident and “blamed the system, blamed the press, and as of late has tried to take advantage of his childhood trauma.”

Megan spoke about the case to Evette Dionne for Elle, and opened up about being “called a liar every day” on social media and claimed Lanez “laughed and joked about my trauma.”
“For years, my attacker tried to leverage social media to take away my power,” she said. “Imagine how it feels to be called a liar every day? Especially from a person who was once part of your inner circle.”

To The Umbrellas,
I have never let a hard time intimidate me
I will never never let no jail time eliminate me
Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will.
This week in court I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved….
That’s it.
In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges l’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.
I’ve faced adversity my whole life and every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top. This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious.
Tough times don’t last, tough people do.
To my family, friends and umbrellas thank you for your continued support.
See you soon.
