A new airline will soon be servicing flights from Los Angeles and New York to London. According to a news release from the company, Global Airlines will launch transatlantic service in Spring 2024.
Under the advisory of aviation investor Matthew Brown, Global Airlines’ service to London is the first of many routes. The airline plans to expand as it acquires additional aircraft.
New To The Aviation Industry
On August 1, the airline announced the acquisition of four new aircraft as it prepares to launch. The acquisition follows the appointment of French Air Force pilot Pierre Madrange and commercial and military pilot Captain Ian Black to the company’s advisory board.
“We are also delighted to announce that we have agreed the purchase of a further three A380s to join the Global fleet,” Founder and CEO of Global Airlines James Asquith said in a statement. “As I’ve always said, the A380 is the best aircraft in the sky, and we will continue to look for further acquisition opportunities.”
According to Routes, Global Airlines aims to “reinvigorate the flying experience.” This includes having more spacious aircraft and remaining committed to passenger safety. The airline’s latest partnership with American Express will also offer cardholders exclusive perks, according to Simply Flying.
“Teaming up with American Express to provide its Cardmembers with exclusive offers and promotions and the chance to join us on some of our very first flights, alongside delivering a best-in-class payments experience, is a really important step for the airline,” Asquith said.
Steep Competition
Although leadership at Global Airlines is excited about the spring launch, the company faces steep competition. The airline will compete with six other airlines on routes from JFK and LAX to London Gatwick Airport. According to Simply Flying, legacy carriers like American Airlines and British Airways have dominated the London route for decades. With Global Airlines providing one or two long-haul flights a day, some question whether the new carrier will be able to keep up.
Other travel professionals hope the new routes attract travelers looking to explore more than London’s metropolitan streets. According to Travel Off The Path, southern coastal cities like Brighton and Sussex are bracing for impact as more tourists flock to London thanks to the new routes.
