*(Los Angeles, CA) — We could only hope for a song or two from Grammy Award winner Macy Gray. Singer, songwriter, and actress Macy Gray was onsite for the 2nd Annual Rock the Block LA Block Party presented by White Hall Arts Academy. Rock The Block was a fun-filled day with music, conversations, and community!
The free community festival was held on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 12pm-5pm. This year’s block party focused on whole-body wellness, with an emphasis on youth fitness, economic empowerment and change makers.
Several thousand people from throughout Los Angeles converged on 54th Street, between 4th & 7th Street for a day of family fun, entertainment, activities, and amazing giveaways from LA 28 and the Guitar Center Foundation.
The KJLH Choir kicked off the Summer of Praise with selections that consisted of inspiring and uplifting messages. This popular local choir featured material from their upcoming debut CD. The highlights were “Get On Up,” “He’s Just Alright,” “Be Grateful,” and “We Are Blessed in the Midnight Hour.”
The first panel of the day: Hip Hop 50: Past, Present and Future featured Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Felecia “The Poetess” Morris, Dana Mason, and Channing B. Smith, Esq. (RCA Records), moderated by Scetch. This informative panel celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. The distinguished panel brought back fond memories as they discussed their introduction to Hip-Hop. The panel as well as the moderator is actively involved in Hip-Hop. The panel agreed that the future of Hip-Hop looks bright and they concluded with a message of hope for emerging Hip-Hop artists.
Macy Gray was present to receive the inaugural Change Makers Award presented by Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, (37th District), and Tanisha Hall, Founder, White Hall Arts Academy.
This served as the perfect segue into the Change Makers Panel with Macy Gray, Jordan brand designer and model Aleali May, Dr. John Paul Foster, Senior Pastor, Faithful Central Bible Church, and Assemblymember Isaac G. Bryan, (55th Assembly District). This dynamic and powerful panel moderator by Tina Sampay, (Slauson Girl), is all Change Makers in their respective fields. Their careers speak volumes as Change Makers.
The Main Stage, located in front of White Hall Arts Academy at 6th and 54th, featured an outstanding performance by Christian Felix featuring Mariachi Ambiente and a Tiny Room Jam Session hosted by Tiny Room Studios.
Metro, Tiffany Haddish’s She Ready Foundation partnered with White Hall Arts Academy for the 2nd Annual Rock The Block, LA Block Party.
LAPD hosted a self-defense workshop and the LAFD conducted a timely Fire Safety Demonstration. Plug In America offered attendees an opportunity to test drive electric vehicles.
Rock The Block, LA Block Party featured several fun activities focuses including a huge kid’s zone, hosted by Boomer The Clown, a Parents Zone hosted by Metro, and informational sessions on health and wellness with important screenings.
