Sony Pictures has made some major updates to its upcoming release calendar.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, many highly anticipated projects are getting brand-new release dates due to the ongoing actors’ and writers’ strikes. Among those projects is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has been taken off of the 2024 release calendar for now.
Sony has shifted its plans for the ‘Gran Turismo’ release
According to the outlet, the release for Gran Turismo — which tells the real-life story of professional race car driver Jann Mardenborough — has also been shifted as the studio is trying to figure out another way to market the movie without stars promoting it.
As of this writing, the film will open on Aug. 25, with sneak previews occurring on its original weekend date of Aug. 11, as well as on the weekend of Aug. 18.
‘Kraven the Hunter’ has been moved from Oct. 6 of this year to Aug. 30, 2024.
The release of the film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ariana DeBose has been pushed back due to Sony not doing full marketing and publicity ahead of its original release date.
Sony’s ‘Karate Kid’ has also been delayed.
According to THR, the film’s release date has been moved from June 7, 2024 to Dec. 13, 2024. Development for the project is currently stalled.
Sony made a few changes not related to the strike.
One of the big changes is the untitled Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel being moved from its Dec. 20, 2023 date to March 29, 2024.
The studio also dated the untitled Bad Boys sequel, which will hit theaters on June 14, 2024, and the third Venom movie which is expected to go out on July 12, 2024.
Other upcoming films experiencing changes include:
