Dwayne Johnson Makes Historic, 7-Figure Donation To SAG-AFTRA Foundation Relief Fund As Strike Continues – Shadow and Act

Amid the ongoing strike on major Hollywood productions, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has stepped up to help his fellow Screen Actors Guild members.

According to Variety, the actor recently gave a “seven-figure donation” to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Fund to assist the union’s 160,000 members with financial relief.

The outlet reports that Johnson’s team reached out to offer his help, which lead him to having a phone call with SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance.

“It was a love fest. It’s like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that is allowing others to know the dire necessity of it,’ ” Vance said of Johnson’s donation. “This is him saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a huge message to other folks to do the same thing.”

While the exact amount of Johnson’s donation has not been disclosed, his contribution was “historic” as it will financially assist thousands of actors during the strike.

“Everyone knows what happens when you go on strike, when you stand for something — as the saying goes, if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for everything,” Vance said. “You can’t stand unless you have support underneath you, on the side, up top and upfront. So Dwayne is letting everyone know, ‘I’m here. What are you going to do?’”

Vance went on to thank Johnson for his gratitude, noting that he stepped up in a “significant and meaningful way for our community.”

Vance added, “On behalf of the thousands who will be helped by his historic donation, thank you, thank you, thank you.”
