St. Lucia appears to be overlaid with a filter but those bright colors aren’t a trick of the lens or a Photoshop job. The island is naturally beautiful, and that’s what keeps tourists enchanted.
Whether you’re planning to visit St. Lucia for a special occasion or to escape the stress of everyday life, the island delivers on every front. Though the island is small, there’s plenty to see and do, even if you’re only there for a few days.
These sites on the island are great backdrops for photos.
The Pitons
These volcanic plugs (don’t worry, they’re dormant), are the most recognizable features on the island. There are many places to get good photos of them, such as Sugar Beach. Some private accommodations in Soufriere also afford views of them.
While it’s possible to climb the Pitons, you’ll need a guide. Petit Piton may be smaller, but it’s much more technical and demanding. Gros Piton is also challenging, but not as consistently vertical. The higher you ascend, the greater the views become. Hope for a clear day so that you can really take in the vistas from the rocky summit of Gros Piton.
If you’re climbing with a romantic partner, Gros Piton offers several points where you can take a cute kissing photo. If you’re at the halfway point, Petit Piton will photobomb you. You might decide to turn around and head back. Or, if you’re intrepid, carry on climbing to the summit.
Beaches, Beaches and More Beaches
Why not pop the question on one of St. Lucia’s fabulous beaches? Sugar Beach in Soufriere gets high praise, as well as Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay and Anse Cochon in Anse La Raye. Snapping pictures during the day would be best, but you can also get some dramatic shots at sunset.
Pigeon Island National Park
Toward the north of St. Lucia, is Pigeon Island, a beautiful natural park. Aside from the beaches and greenery, you’ll also be able to see the remains of an old fort. No matter what side of the island you’re on, you can snap photos of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
If you want to avoid crowds, consider visiting early in the morning. As of now, the entrance fee for adults is $10.
The Rainforest
When it comes to beautiful backdrops, what’s more dramatic than the rainforest? There’s no better way to find your center than to hike, bike, or zipline through lush greenery.
Whichever you choose, your friendly guide will familiarize you with your surroundings and will be happy to take photos for you. Keep an eye out for wildlife, like the St. Lucia parrot. You won’t find this species of bird anywhere else.
