*Noted producer, digital media executive, and influencer Brennan Williams (also known as Will Coloan) celebrates summer with a brand-new take on an R&B classic: The Jones Girls 1981 Philly soul hit, “Nights Over Egypt.”
His new remix emphasizes the tune’s lyrical and rhythmic connection to Africa, while the accompanying lyric video pays tribute to our collective memories of watching the venerated TV show “Soul Train.” With this release – which has already garnered more than tens of thousands of streams on SoundCloud, Williams offers an innovative look at the way Black music’s illustrious past connects to its future.
The “Nights Over Egypt” Lyric Video can be seen on YouTube, while the track is available on SoundCloud and at his website, www.willcoloan.com. He is also the founder of Coloan Brands.
The original version of “Nights Over Egypt” was released in December 1981 on Philadelphia International Records, was written by Cynthia Biggs and Dexter Wansel, and produced by the legendary Kenneth Gamble of Gamble & Huff fame.
Coloan’s remix adds a powerful rhythm track and focuses on the tune’s lyrical imagery of the beautiful, veiled women of ancient Egypt against a backdrop of majestic pyramids and the life-giving waters of the Nile River.
“‘Nights Over Egypt’ is one of those great, rare tunes from the soul music catalog, because it combines R&B and Jazz and tells a beautiful story set in Egypt,” says Williams, who has an impressive track record of re-imagining and updating classic tracks. “It’s exceptional because it has those lyrics, combined with a smooth, lush melody, and a grand vocal performance presented by The Jones Girls. In my remix, I wanted to bring some of those elements forward, so that a new generation of listeners could appreciate the track with a modern twist.”
Creating remixes of significant tracks is part of the Will Coloan brand. His brand-new lyric video of “Nights Over Egypt” follows the smash success of the Will Coloan remix of “Escobar” featuring Nas and Ghostface Killah. Since its April 2023 release, the track has garnered 110K streams on SoundCloud and has been highlighted by several online publications.
In July 2020, Will Coloan also created a sensation with his impactful video and remix of Stevie Wonder’s indelible classic “Black Man.” The video remix featured historic images of more than 100 influential Americans, as well as a spoken introduction by Motown legend Wonder himself. The project, which drew attention to the Black Lives Matter movement, became a 2021 New York International Film Awards Finalist in the Best Music Video category.
