*Deion Sanders is back under contract with Nike despite saying he would never again work with the sports conglomerate after their first relationship ended years ago.
In an announcement via Instagram, the NFL veteran and current University of Colorado football coach posted a series of pictures in a Nike shirt and with his signature Nike shoe on his lap.
The University of Colorado, has had an exclusive contract with Nike since 1995. The contract Sanders signed after ending his successful coaching stint at Jackson State requires him to wear Nike gear supplied by the company. One video from January showed a Colorado equipment staffer giving Sanders Nike shoes to try on, prompting Sanders to say that he felt like he was “cheatin’ on somebody” after not wearing Nike shoes in “at least 15 years.”

Sanders’ original 1992 Nike contract included his own signature shoe. The then Atlanta Falcons star’s Nike Air Diamond Turf debuted in 1993, followed by The Air Diamond Turf 2 in ’94, the Diamond Turf Max in 96, the Air Diamond Turf 4 in 97 and the Air Diamond Turf 5 in 1998. Sanders helped design his signature line and appeared in national commercials to promote the sneakers. Years later, he revealed disappointment in the amount of compensation received from the deal.
“That’s why I’m upset with them right now,” he said in an 2017 interview with Joe La Puma of Complex, a multimedia company that covers pop culture. “We created these together, but they don’t want to seed me. They don’t want to direct-deposit.”
Terms of Sanders’ new Nike deal were kept under wraps, according to USA TODAY. The company is expected to produce “Coach Prime” gear with the Nike logo and could relaunch his signature old shoe, the Nike Air Diamond Turf, the outlet reports.
Meanwhile, Prime’s 14 year relationship with Under Armour is over. The Baltimore-based company confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY: “Under Armour had a longstanding partnership with Deion Sanders for more than a decade, and we are proud of what we accomplished together. Now that he has gone on to Colorado, we can’t wait to see him continue to positively impact the game and look forward to watching him find continued success with his new partners, athletes, and expanded communities.”
