The Radisson Hotel Group has recently announced an ambitious expansion plan to solidify its dominant position on the continent. The group has several new hotel openings in Africa and developments in progress, with over 1,400 new hotel rooms in the pipeline.
The expansion efforts span across various countries in Africa. The group has already opened hotels in locations, such as Reunion Island and Ghana. It has plans to establish new resorts in Casablanca and Saidia, Morocco, as well as South Africa, Egypt, and Tunisia. These additions will further contribute to the growth of the African hospitality industry and provide employment opportunities to local communities.
During the Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Nairobi earlier this month, Radisson Hotel Group’s Executive Vice President and Global Chief Development Officer, Elie Younes, expressed confidence in the company’s growth momentum in Africa. He emphasized the relevance of their brands and the trust of their owners as key factors in their success.
Ramsay Rankoussi, Vice President of Development for Africa and Turkey at Radisson Hotel Group, highlighted the group’s progress in Africa, with seven new hotel signings and over 1,400 rooms added to their portfolio in 2023. He mentioned that Radisson Hotel Group consistently holds the largest market share and has achieved a commendable 15 percent growth in its African portfolio year-on-year. The group aims to reach its target of 150 hotels within the next five years, up from the current 100 hotels.
Several Projects in Africa
Among the new signings are several projects. The Radisson Collection Resort in Marsa Alam Port Phoenice, Egypt, is set to open in early 2025. It will offer luxurious accommodation options, including rooms and suites with stunning sea views. The resort also will feature various amenities, such as dining options, a fitness center and direct beach access.
Abuja, Nigeria, will see the arrival of the Radisson Collection Hotel and Conference Centre. This will be the city’s first luxury hotel and Nigeria’s third Radisson Collection property. This hotel will provide a wide range of rooms and apartments. There also will be extensive meeting spaces suitable for conferences and events.
Gambia’s first internationally branded hotel will come with the construction of the Radisson Blu Beach Resort and Spa in Banjul. The resort, scheduled to open in early 2025, will offer contemporary rooms, presidential apartments and royal villas. It also will have multiple dining options and a spacious meeting and events space.
Other locations set to feature new Radisson hotels include Abuja CBD in Nigeria, Lagos VI in Nigeria, Nairobi Airport in Kenya, and Algiers El Mouradia in Algeria.
Through these strategic developments, the Radisson Hotel Group aims to strengthen its presence. The company wants to cater to the growing demand for high-quality accommodation and hospitality experiences in Africa’s thriving tourism market.
