*Political commentator Candace Owens celebrated the Supreme Court’s landmark decision to strike down college affirmative action programs.
Owens took to social media to call the ruling “a MAJOR WIN in the strive for racial equality.”
“Wow!! Affirmative action, something I have spoken out against for the last 7 years, has FINALLY been struck down in a historic Supreme Court ruling,” she tweeted, Newsweek reports.
“This is a MAJOR WIN in the strive for racial equality, removing the bigotry of low expectations against black students, while permitting Asian and white Americans an EQUAL chance to be rewarded for their hard work. RACE should never be a factor in deciding whether or not you are qualified for anything,” Owens continued.
“It’s a shame it took this long, but finally—justice wins!” she added. “Make America a meritocracy again.”

Owens also used the success of Black athletes to explain how Asian Americans are overlooked in elitist academia.
“Imagine if the NBA declined Lebron James because there were “too many black people in the NBA” and they wanted racial diversity—so they instead allowed Ed Sheeran onto the Lakers in his place. That is exactly what Asian-Americans have been enduring for decades at Harvard,” she tweeted.
As Black Enterprise reports, many Twitter users slammed Owens’ comparison.
“When 43% of a leading NBA team is made up of players who got the job primarily because they filled a non-playing role for the team, or their parents played/worked for, or donated to the team, this will be something other than a laughably stupid false equivalence,” wrote Twitter user Dan McClellan, according to Black Enterprise.
