Daniel Kaluuya’s Upcoming Barney Film Described As ‘A24-Type’ And ‘Surrealistic’ By Execs – Shadow and Act

A little bit of new information has been revealed about Daniel Kaluuya’s mysterious Barney movie from Mattel Films. The Oscar winner is starring in and producing the film.

While not much is known about Kaluuya’s character or what the film is about, Mattel Films executive Kevin McKeon recently told The New Yorker that the movie is “surrealistic” and geared more towards millennials rather than children.

“We’re leaning into the Millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids,” McKeon said. “It’s really a play for adults. Not that it’s R-rated, but it’ll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being 30-something, growing up with Barney—just the level of disenchantment within the generation.”

McKeon added that the Barney movie as an “A24-type” of film, explaining, “It would be so daring of us, and really underscore that we’re here to make art.”

Kaluuya says that he and others are working together to produce the perfect script.

“The script’s gotta be good, you know what I mean? It’s in development,” Kaluuya told Yahoo Entertainment earlier this year. “I ask for high standards on anything that I work on, and I’m producing this one, so it’s still in development.”
