*Barack Obama watched the “Swarm” episode that his daughter Malia worked on.
“I watched it because, A) I was a big fan of Atlanta,” the former president said in a conversation with Hasan Minhaj on the comedian’s YouTube channel. “And I watched it because my daughter worked on it. So, of course, I’ve got to watch it.”
We reported previously that Malia made her TV writing debut with the new Prime Video thriller series.
“Swarm” hails from co-creators and executive producers Janine Nabers and Donald Glover, who worked together on the hit FX series “Atlanta.” Per the official synopsis: “Swarm, set between 2016-2018, follows Dre (Dominque Fishback), an obsessed fan of the world’s biggest pop star who sets off on an unexpected cross-country journey. Dre’s obsession with a popular musician has her committing obscene acts, but how far will her infatuation take her?”
Nabers, who serves as the series showrunner, told ET that Malia’s episode, titled “Girl, Bye,” is one of the “wildest” episodes this season.
“I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people. It’s pretty dope. I’m really proud of it,” Nabers said.
“Some of her pitches were wild as hell, and they were just so good and so funny,” Nabers said of the former first daughter. “She’s an incredible writer. She brought a lot to the table… She’s really, really dedicated to her craft.”
During his interview with Hasan Minhaj, Baraka was about the show’s pilot episode which featured a sex scene between Damson Idris’ character Khalid and Chlöe Bailey’s Marissa.
“Look, if what you are suggesting is that there are aspects of that show that I found a little disturbing,” Obama said before trailing off. “That’s the nature of art these days, and at [this] moment, and that’s OK.”
