*Webbies, so the BET awards were last night, as many of you already know, but we wanted to spotlight some of the highlights. We are so happy that actress/singer Coco Jones won the Best New Artist award. BET giving Coco her flowers is important in every way, as the “ICU” songstress said in her acceptance that Black girls have to fight a “little harder.” Still, her presence shows that with faith and determination, anything is possible. Coco is also proving that R&B is here to stay, we can’t wait to see how her talent continues to develop. One fan wrote, “AYo, Err time you win and share your artistry vs sharing the drama.. we feel more and more connected to your professional journey. I’m so excited about your future and look forward to more award-show performances. Keep going, Ms. Jones!” We love to see it!
One of the night’s best moments was when Offset and Quavo reunited on stage to pay tribute to their fallen comrade Takeoff. We’re still not over how they took him from us; rest well, Takeoff!
Busta Rhymes showed the new generation of artists what it means to perform, even though the audience wasn’t as hyped as they should have been because they probably weren’t familiar with his classic Hip-Hop bops. But Entertainment Tonight caught up with him after the show, and Busta gave props to the women in his life that helped to steer his successful career, like his manager, Mona Scott-Young, and his touring manager, Rebekah A. Foster, and his mother who signed his first recording contract when he was 17-years old.
Coi Leray brought mad energy to her performance of her single “Players” and wore a fit that paid homage to the women in Hip Hop. We love to see solidarity among female emcees.
