*Khloe Kardashian has officially petitioned a court to change her son’s name from Tatum Kardashian to Tatum Thompson, after his dad, Tristan Thompson.
“The name change Petitioners decided not to pick a first name when their son was born,” the filing reads, per The Blast. “Now that Petitioners have had the chance to spend time with their son, they have decided on the name Tatum Thompson.”
Under California law, parents can choose whether they want to have their father’s last name, their mother’s last name, or a combination of both, reports The Blast. Khloe chose the name of the child’s father as they co-parent their two children together.
Tatum was born on July 2022, joining the couple’s daughter, True Thompson, born in 2018. Citing sources “with direct knowledge of the situation,” TMZ reported that Tatum also wasn’t her son’s first name, though it is unknown what it was. As for the reason Khloe initially left Tristan’s name off the birth certificate, TMZ says it’s likely because he got another woman, Maralee Nichols, pregnant after Khloe and Tristan had decided to go ahead with a surrogate to carry Tatum.
The couple ended their relationship in January 2022 after Khloe found out that Tristan had a son, Theo, with Nichols. The NBA player is also a father to a son named Prince, 6, with his ex Jordan Craig.
