Gabrielle Union sparked controversy when she revealed she and her husband Dwyane Wade split everything “50/50.” Now, D. Wade is clarifying what she meant. He also talked about how they went about signing a prenup before getting married. Details inside…
When it comes to their finances, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have been making headlines with their “50/50” arrangement. But D. Wade is giving the inside scoop on their financial arrangement to put any misconceptions to rest.
During his recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast with Shannon Sharpe, the retired NBA star, 41, addressed Gabby’s viral quotes, clarifying the truth behind their shared financial journey.
It all started when D. Wade’s offhand comment about their Florida mansion being “my house that I paid for” sparked a fiery argument. The “Being Mary Jane” alum, never one to back down, decided it was time to redefine the rules. They made a joint decision to contribute equally to their household expenses. And thus, their “50/50” financial arrangement was born.
”My wife looked at me and said ‘You will never say that to me again when it’s something that we share,'” Wade recalled. “So when we moved to (Los Angeles) my wife said ‘I got half on it you will never say ‘my house’ again – you can say that in the arena!'”
“The house we live in, thank god, Hidden Hills, nice house, whatever, millions,” he said. “We could have had a nice house on my 50 percent too. It’d been nice, she was like, ’No let me put something else on it and let’s live a little differently.’”
The former NBA star explained that there was a common misconception about what going “50/50” really means for their relationship.
“I understand what 50/50 means. 50/50 means that everything in life, you got your half and I got my half. We gon put this s–t together and try to make 100. That’s how 50/50 goes. That is not how our relationship works,” he said.
He added, “In our life, in our home, 50/50 means [we] purchase it together.”
During a candid moment, the NBA star revealed, “We decided that certain pieces of our life, we would share in it.”
When it comes to other expenses, such as Gabby’s family members and D. Wade’s own kin, they take on the responsibility individually, paying “100% of that” separately. After all, family matters are personal, and they respect the boundaries while honoring their commitments.
In addition to their home, they also divide any expenses related to their 4-year-old daughter, Kaavia. The former Miami Heat baller said there are about three things in their life that they go 50/50 on and that everything else, she’s “1,000 percent” and he’s “1,000 percent.”

Back in May, the “Bring It On” alum stirred up a storm of conversation when she revealed that she and her husband split everything 50/50.
”In our household, we split everything 50/50,” she boldly declared during her appearance on the Bloomberg Originals series “Idea Generation.” However, Gabby also acknowledged the pressure and financial responsibilities that come with supporting several households. She candidly expressed, “But in the other households that each of us have to support, there’s always this gorilla on your back saying, ‘You better work! Can’t afford to rest. Someone might go hungry.’ It’s a tough mindset to shake off, but I’m actively working on it.”
During D.Wade’s podcast interview, he also explained why he and Gabby both signed prenuptial agreements.
He recalled telling his wife before they married, “I’ll sign a prenup, too. You’re a millionaire, you got money. You work hard for yourself.”

D. Wade and Gabby tied the knot in 2014 and expanded their family when they joyfully welcomed their daughter, Kaavia, into the world via surrogate in November 2018. Prior to their union, Dwyane was previously married to Siohvaughn Funches from 2002 to 2010, and they are proud parents to daughter Zaya, 16, and son Zaire, 21.
In addition to his children from previous relationships, D. Wade also has a son named Xavier, born in 2013 with Aja Métoyer. Furthermore, he has taken on the role of legal guardian for his nephew Dahveon Morris. As for Gabby, she was previously married to Chris Howard from 2001 to 2006, but they did not have any children together.
Now that D. Wade has clarified the “50/50” comment Gabby made about their relationship – thoughts?
