Dove and the popular children’s YouTube series “Gracie’s Corner” are teaming up to celebrate the beauty of natural hair and raise awareness about the CROWN Act. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as Texas recently joined the movement, bringing us all a step closer to hair equality.
A new episode of “Gracie’s Corner” aims to empower the next generation of young advocates with a powerful message of self-empowerment and celebrating individuality.
In the new short, Gracie passionately explains the significance of embracing one’s natural hair and the importance of the CROWN Act. The short will kick off a series of exciting initiatives leading up to National CROWN Day on July 3, 2023—a nationwide celebration of Black Hair Independence Day.

To make the upcoming release of “Gracie’s CROWN” even more interactive, a special Instagram filter has been created. Parents can use this filter to capture memorable moments with their children against a “Gracie’s Corner” backdrop.
Join the #GraciesCROWNChallenge by using the filter to highlight your child’s beautiful crown or ask them why they love their hair. The official Gracie’s Corner CROWN filter is available under effects on Instagram—search for “Gracie’s CROWN Filter” and let the creativity flow.
“‘Gracie’s Corner’ is an incredible platform for empowering our young children, and we are delighted to work with Dr. Javoris Hollingsworth, Dr. Arlene Hollingsworth, and their daughter Graceyn, to help young children of all ages celebrate their beautiful crowns,” said Esi Eggleston Bracey, President & CEO Unilever Personal Care North America. “Together, ‘Gracie’s Corner’ and Dove are on a mission to drive positive change and inspire a new generation of advocates for equality and representation as part of the ongoing CROWN movement.”
In addition to the exciting collaboration between Dove and “Gracie’s Corner,” it’s crucial to shed light on the 2021 CROWN Research Study for Girls. This study provides eye-opening insights that highlight the importance of addressing hair discrimination. Here are some key findings that truly resonate:
According to the study:
• 53% of Black mothers reveal that their daughters have experienced racial discrimination based on hairstyles as early as five years old. This statistic highlights the distressing reality that young girls are already facing discrimination at such a tender age.
• 66% of Black children attending majority-white schools have encountered race-based hair discrimination. This statistic emphasizes the urgent need for awareness and change within our educational institutions.
These findings from the CROWN Research Study emphasize the significance of the CROWN Act and the vital role it plays in combating hair discrimination. By celebrating natural hair and educating families about the movement, Dove and “Gracie’s Corner” are working towards empowering the next generation of young advocates and fostering a more inclusive society. And we love to see it!
