*The legal battle involving Nicki Minaj’s husband and a woman who accused him of sexual assault may head to trial after attempts to reach a settlement through mediation have stalled, according to Allhiphop.com.
Kenneth Petty was ordered to mediation with Jennifer Hough after her lawsuit alleged that he harassed her to recant, in an attempt to get off the National Sex Offender Registry. Hough says she was offered $500,000 to drop the case and that Minaj and Petty hired private investigators to track her down and harass her daughter. Hough said the ordeal forced her to move between states out of fear for her life.
Petty was a no-show at the initial court-ordered mediation session, citing illness. After attending a recent session, no progress was made. Hough’s lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn, said in a statement: “We participated in private mediation, but unfortunately we were unable to reach a settlement,” and that the case may now head to trial.
Hough initially included Minaj in the lawsuit, claiming that the rapper was involved in efforts to intimidate her. Although those charges were eventually dropped, Minaj’s legal team attempted to sanction Blackburn, over what they called “wild accusations,” including claims that Minaj and Petty were members of a New York gang, the Makk Baller Brims, and allegations of cyberstalking behavior by Minaj’s legal team. A judge ruled against Minaj’s request for sanctions, stating that the actions of Blackburn, while potentially offensive, did not warrant a penalty.
Petty, who was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995 and sentenced to over four years in prison, later pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in 2021 when he moved to Los Angeles, which was a stipulation of his sentencing. Petty received one year of home confinement and three years of probation.
