*Singer Ari Lennox is apologizing to Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King for blasting both women in 2020 after King’s coverage of Kobe Bryant’s death.
We reported previously that Lennox slammed King and Winfrey in an Instagram Live, accusing them of bashing Black males accused of sex crimes while ignoring similar allegations leveled against some of their white male industry peers, such as Harvey Weinstein.
“Listen, this is about to get real toxic, and I don’t give a f—k if I get cancelled forever,” Lennox said in the clip at the time. “F–k Gayle and F–k Oprah. Y’all are some self-hating pieces of s–t f–k a–es.”
She also referred to Winfrey and King as “Okrah” and “Kale” and said, “You want to spend the rest of your days tearing down Black people? Build us up, help us!”
In a new statement on Twitter, the R&B songstress wrote, “I sincerely apologize to Oprah and Gayle. Y’all legends didn’t deserve that wretched ignorant live.”
As The Jasmine Brand reports, she added, “I can be a b**ch sometimes. Just putting it out there. Not always proud of those moments but sometimes I am.”
The soul singer further elaborated, “I have been naive, a sheep, a people pleaser battling traumas and codependency. I was one mindlessly snd unintentionally spreading false information in order to impress people. My lives were a playground on top of a fiery hell. I was simply unaware of the damage I was causing.”
According to The Jasmine Brand, Lennox insists there is no agenda behind her apology.
“Y’all can take this however you want. But my passion is SINGING. I am not an actress first nor have I been auditioning for anything. I’m beyond content with what God has blessed me with. I apologized because I FEEL I was wrong and I feel like those women didn’t deserve that ignorant attack from me,” she wrote.
“This is not to impress the self righteous idiots, the true misogynist that love degrading black women for their imperfections or flaws. We all have a million reasons as to why we become who we become and I don’t see the point in being judgmental and evil towards people figuring it out. I’m here with no agenda or motive,” Lennox continued. “I was wrong and I want to be very clear about it. I don’t mind being real about it. It is not my intent to impress or please any of you.”
