*Bravo’s “Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard,” follows a group of successful urban professionals who come together for a vacation in Martha’s Vineyard. The new season features a friend group centering on newly married Jasmine Cooper and Silas Cooper, who invited their friends to vacation with them. The series explores the group’s relationships, drama, and experiences in Martha’s Vineyard’s beautiful and historic setting.
EUR spoke with Cooper, who shares how she and Silas met and why they decided to bring reality TV into their lives. The former Playboy Bunny said the two met on Hinge, a dating app, just a few weeks before the pandemic hit.
They had their first date in Union Square Park in New York, sitting six feet apart and getting to know each other. They quickly bonded over their shared love of family and quirky humor, and after meeting each other’s families, they got engaged just four months later.
Jasmine said Bravo approached them to do the show, but they would have done it anyway. They were excited to expose their regular friends to a broader audience and show a different side of themselves. Jasmine and Silas are newlyweds, and he is in the service while she has a successful career as a screenwriter. Doing the show felt risky but a no-brainer because they believe representation is important.
The show’s cast comprises a group with different backgrounds and personalities. Amir Lancaster is new to Martha’s Vineyard and wants to connect with his roots and learn about the island’s Black history. Unfortunately, he falls for a housemate, which adds to the drama. Cooper confirmed that Amir was the biggest Flirt in the house. Jordan Emanuel has been friends with Jasmine since their Playboy Bunny days and still loves to have a good time, which doesn’t always sit well with Silas. Cooper said she views Jordan as “the voice of reason.”
Preston Mitchum is a Black queer activist excited to spend time with his fraternity brother Silas and the group. Bria Fleming is a fashionista in a new relationship but is tested when she brings a different kind of house guest to the rental. Cooper shared that Bria is like a little sister to her. Flemming also worked as a Playboy Bunny with Jasmine.
Alex Tyree is a non-drinker who tries to persuade his friends to follow suit and is bobbing and weaving the advances of a housemate. Shanice Henderson is tall about the turn up. She’s ready to be the party girl this summer, but when rumors start circulating about her past, the drama soon follows. Jason Lyke is the counselor for the group but often finds himself at the center of the drama. Summer Marie Thomas is discovering Martha’s Vineyard for the first time and intends to have the best possible time while getting her flirt on. Finally, Nicholas “Nick” Arrington is a self-proclaimed style savant with an outfit ready for every outing and competes with Amir for a housemate’s affection.
The series promises to be full of hot-button moments, but it’s not just about that. There are also real connections between the cast members. Jasmine and Mariah Torres, for example, have a special bond that goes back to their college days when they were both homeless and living out of a car. They met and immediately clicked, despite being very different. Mariah is a single mom, and Jasmine encouraged her to follow her dreams in New York. The two have been close ever since, and the show will highlight their friendship.
