*Production on season three of the strip club drama series “P-Valley” is postponed amid the Hollywood writers strike.
As Deadline reports, creator and showrunner Katori Hall said, “We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached.”
“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” she added, “I am also a member of the DGA whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”
Hall previously said it will take about two years before fans will get the third season on Starz.
“We wouldn’t be getting back up on that pony… Y’all are our fire,” Hall expressed in a statement. “I am blessed beyond measure for this opportunity to write the next chapter of P-Valley. With its complex, dynamic, and beautifully flawed characters, this show is a love letter to marginalized communities in the American South who rarely see themselves reflected on screen, and it brings me immense joy to know that it has been embraced by folx worldwide.”
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Hall said… “I want people over the next two years because it’ll take that long, to just remember these iconic TV moments that we were able to craft with love and care and consideration.”
Meanwhile, the Hollywood writers strike could go on for months, with production on most scripted and late-night programming coming to a halt as no new material is being created.
“Pretty much every show is being affected in one way or another,” said Reed Alexander, a reporter on the business of Hollywood for Insider, per CBS News. “It depends on the lifecycle the production is in.”
The strike has no effect on broadcast news shows since the journalists on their staff are not members of the WGA. Additionally, you might see an increase in reality TV shows and documentary content as a replacement for scripted content.
“But scripted comedies, sitcoms, dramas, all of that right now is a no-go until this is resolved,” Alexander said.
Members of the WGA are demanding higher wages from studios and protections against the exploitation of their jobs by artificial intelligence (AI).
