Shadow and Act has the exclusive trailer debut for the upcoming western film, Surrounded, starring Letitia Wright and the late Michael K. Williams.
The Anthony Mandler-directed feature, from MGM Studios, follows Mo (Wright) as she travels into dangerous territory disguised as a man.
Here is an official description:
Five years after the Civil War, freedwoman and former Buffalo Soldier Moses “Mo” Washington travels west to lay claim on a gold mine- the summation of years of toil for Mo and her community. It is a mean, dangerous world for an unaccompanied Black woman in 1870 America and so Mo travels into the deep frontier disguised as a man. After her stagecoach is ambushed by a group of murderous thieves, Mo is forced to hold legendary outlaw Tommy Walsh captive while the remaining surviving passengers seek out help. What ensues is a battle of wills, blurring the line between captor and captive, as they both try to survive the harsh western landscape.
“Portraying Mo Washington in Surrounded allowed me to transform as an artist, I’m excited for Western movie lovers to dig into this story,” Wright said in an exclusive statement to S&A about the film.
Starring alongside Wright in the film are Jamie Bell and Williams.
Surrounded is the last film that the latter’s appeared in before his untimely death in September 2021.
The film is rounded out with Jeffrey Donovan and Brett Gelman.
Surrounded was written by Andrew Pagana and Justin Thomas, with Aaron Ginsberg, William Green, Jason Cloth, Richard McConnell, and Suraj Maraboyina serving as executive producers.
It is produced by Anthony Mandler, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Michael Berman, Derek Iger, Letitia Wright, and Ade O’Adesina.
