*Webbies, did ya’ miss us? We’ll don’t despair, we got some Social Heat for ya’. Robin Thicke spoke of his love of Black culture on the We In Miami podcast. He mentioned the names of family members involved with some aspects of Black artistic and societal experiences. However, he addressed how many members of our community accused him of being a culture vulture. Robin dropped some barz and said, “Haters are supposed to be teachers.” Many listeners were on the fence with his perspectives, while most honored the fact he was married to bi-racial actress Paula Patton, his honorary Black card is still up for review due to the statement of @nicoya187 “Riot than next time a police officer kills one of us!” and that’s real. Many white entertainers love to profit from Black genius but rarely speak up when police brutalize our lives. MmmmHmm.
Rihanna got the belly out to celebrate the fifth year of Savage X Fenty. She captioned a series of promotional pictures saying, “Baybee! Don’t get it twisted, this is just the beginning. Told ya we had somethin’ Xtra special dropping today… Ur final bundle is here & she’s errything. Oh, and the pic is nice too. Get ya self the bundle! Available in-stores & on the site now.” Ya’ll better come up here and get you one of these!
Usually private and out of the spotlight, Savannah James opened up to The Cut about why she decided to stay on the peripherals of fame in contrast to other basketball wives. “That time, to be honest, was spent pouring into my boys,” she tells Sylvia Obell from a corner booth on the rooftop of an exclusive members-only club in West Hollywood. “I just really wanted to enjoy being a mom and supporting my husband. I wasn’t super-comfortable with putting myself out like that.” We hear that, toast to the soft life!
Jermaine Dupri addressed the chatter of those on social media grabbing their pearls when Hulu announced it was dropping a documentary about Freaknik in Atlanta. Jermaine assured the “Tamron Hall Show” audience that the film would highlight how Atlanta became the epicenter of Black culture and excellence. That’s all well and good, but we still need to know how you plan to tell that story and what details you intend to include; people are Pastors, Reverends, Bishops, and First Ladies now; anxiety is still at an all-time high, lol!
