Da Brat & Jesseca ‘Judy’ Harris-Dupart Shut Down Criticism Over Their Choice Of Using A White Sperm Donor

There has been controversy surrounding Da Brat and Jesseca “Judy” Dupart’s use of a white sperm donor. The couple clarified the matter and highlighted the scarcity of Black sperm donors, sharing that there wasn’t a lot to choose from based on a number of different things. See what they said inside…

Da Brat and her wife, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart, have revealed that they will be welcoming a biracial baby boy. The couple opted for a white sperm donor to conceive their first child, which has sparked a lot of discussion and opinions from people.

According to the couple, their decision was made based on several factors.

In season 3 of their WeTV series “Brat Loves Judy,” the happily married duo is documenting their pregnancy journey. In a recent episode, the rapper and haircare entrepreneur were shown embarking on their IVF journey and choosing a sperm donor.

Despite their enthusiasm for the process, Da Brat and Harris-Dupart were disheartened to discover the limited availability of Black sperm donors.

During an interview with The Root, Da Brat and Judy revealed how difficult it was to find a sperm donor who fit their preferences. Despite reviewing around 300 potential donors, only one Black man was compatible, and according to Da Brat, “That [guy] looked like Jiminy Cricket. I mean, I’m sorry, but that wasn’t gonna be my choice.”

The couple’s decision was met with criticism on social media platforms, where commenters expressed their disapproval. Some individuals went so far as to suggest that the couple opted for a white sperm donor in order to have a child with lighter skin.

In their defense, Black sperm donors constitute less than 2% of the four largest sperm banks in the United States, according to The Washington Post’s analysis. CBS News conducted a similar analysis and found that Black donors accounted for less than 4% of the sperm available at these banks.

Judy took to Instagram to set the record straight about why they chose their sperm donor.

So, as a mother of 3 beautiful black kids , and even a black grand baby I want to CLARIFY SHIT to avoid this STORYLINE from continuing that we choose our donor off of looks and that we didn’t want a black donor …… here’s some things you should know:

1) WE HAD NO IDEA GOING INTO THIS THAT our chances of a black donor would be slim to none

2) that I was a carrier of so many disorders

3) that our window was SOOOO slim and such high risk cus of age and more

4) with my genetic testing I’m the carrier of 4 disorders , that reduced our chances of a black donor down to 1 person and that 1 person had very limited info / portfolio to judge on ….. including BACKGROUND

5) I’m honestly disappointed more than anything at the storyline , but do understand the lack of knowledge on IVF in our community cus a lot of people don’t even realize all the things when it comes with the journey including LACK OF BLACK DONORS, genetic testing , age where most your eggs are gone , etc

6) the headlines are misleading but also my wife made a distasteful joke and now it’s attached to the headline and making it seem like we choose strictly off of looks and we didn’t at all attempt to find a black donor when in fact not only did we try but we also waited to see if more would pop up over time – but had to stay within the window that we had to choose. Furthermore people think just cus u have money that ANYTHING is possible but no amount of money was Changing the cryobanks inventory

7) our baby created with a HEALTHY baby first mindset once we learned all the things , was a hard decision and of course we didn’t want to add any other stigmas or anything to our child but we had SEVERELY limited options . Thanks to all the people supporting us on our journey and I truely hope this brings Awareness to more black men to donate.”

In February, Judy and Da Brat, 49, shared the news that they were expecting their first child together. The announcement followed almost a year of trying to conceive, during which they encountered obstacles, including a miscarriage.

We’re sending them love and prayers for a healthy baby!
