Team USA tweeted, “We join our friends at USA Track & Field and across the Olympic community in mourning the passing of 3x Olympic medalist Tori Bowie. She was an admired friend, teammate, and a great representative of Team USA. We send our sincere condolences to all who know and loved her.”
Tori’s incredible athletic achievements included a gold medal in the women’s 4×100 meter relay team, a silver in the 100-meter dash, and a bronze in the 200-meter dash at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. She was also a two-time NCAA long jump champion in both indoor and outdoor track during her college years at the University of Southern Mississippi. Tori continued to shine after the Olympics, becoming the fastest woman in the world with a breathtaking 10.85-second finish in the 100-meter dash at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.
But Tori was more than just an athlete, as she also dabbled in modeling, having been featured in a Valentino campaign and posing for ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue. Her passing leaves a void in the world of sports and beyond, and our hearts go out to her family, friends, and fans.
Sadly, Tori was not the only member of the Team USA track and field community to pass away recently.
